The Australian Climbing Instructors’ Association (ACIA) is an incorporated body formed in 2000 by the merger of state based professional climbing instructor organizations. The Climbing Instructors Association (CIA), incorporated in Victoria in 1990 and including NSW, and the Rockclimbing Instructors Association of Queensland (RIAQ) dissolved as separate state bodies and now operate under the national banner of the Australian Climbing Instructors’ Association.
The Climbing Company now delivers ACIA-accredited courses and assessments in Victoria.

AARON LOWNDES
The Climbing Company consists of a close knit group of instructors who are experts at what they do. You can be assured you will have a great and fun experience.
Aaron Lowndes owns the Climbing Company and has run it for the last 1.5 years. Aaron has been climbing since he was a young boy and now has close to three decades of experience behind him.
He has travelled all over the world in pursuit of amazing rock, and enjoys classic low-grade adventure routes just as much as harder technical climbing (if grade 29/8a/5.13a means anything to you, that’s his top so far). Prior to starting Melbourne Climbing School in 2015 and acquiring The Climbing Company in 2022, Aaron spent countless weekends voluntarily teaching organised groups rock climbing safety skills, and has facilitated hundreds of new climbers in their transition onto real rock.
Aaron is fully committed to the rock climbing industry, and is a current board member of the Australian Climbing Instructor’s Association (ACIA).
Apart from the physical benefits that climbing provides it also allows a person to take charge and learn that one can be safe, but also explore one's limits in the vertical world the rock provides.
The two most important things a person can find in life is a passion, then the courage to trust one’s heart and follow that passion.
